Fairfax Virginia and Traffic

Disclosure: The amount of traffic in Fairfax, Virginia gets me a tad on the hulk side. Please excuse my green skin and bulging  muscles.

SEVEN AM. My car doors open and my car doors close. I put on 88.5 (NPR) to give me an educational drive.

Braddock Road- Back up passed the side entrance to Mason. Not smart because Robinson, Mason, Oak View and kids driving to the other side of the city to Woodson and Frost are on the road to. Oh, yeah and then after you thought you passed University Mall it doesn’t stop. Trinity private school is also unloading kids.

Main street- Two minutes decides whether you are ahead of the crowd or in it. Sooo many lights. Pray the lights are timed right and the person in front of you is paying attention.

Little River Turnpike- OMG! I NEVER NEVER want to be on this road after 4. You go through light after light and there isn’t much you can do to get out of driving on that road. There was a bit of construction, but it’s getting better.

Fairfax County Parkway- You take my heart and soul. I swear it’s always a new thing. The construction closes and opens lanes. You can only go about 40 mph, but people insist on going about 70 mph. There’s trucks coming into traffic and workers walking around the road. NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ONE AND ONE! I GO! YOU GO! OMG! I can’t wait for it to be done, but I’ve no clue when that’s going to happen.

The main roads suck. If you know back routes keep them a secret because they are probably the same back roads I’m trying to use. & before you go out make sure your car is stocked with happy music and a water bottle (sun burned in traffic has happened to me.)

stay happy, fairfax.

NOVA is…

Northern Virginia is it’s own place. People from Northern Virgina don’t say they are JUST from Virginia. We say we are from Northern Virginia. We don’t want to be confused with the hicks that are farming in Southern Virginia. We don’t want to be confused with the confused people in West Virginia. We want to be thrown in with the almost city people of Northern Virginia. Now if you’re from Northern Virginia and you are explaining to someone where you live naturally you’d say how far it is to the nation’s capital. “I live in Fairfax, VA.” “Oh, where is that?” “It’s in Northern Virginia. About 20-15 minutes away from D.C.” “OH, WOOOW. COOL.” ….BUT! If you say you live in D.C. but you actually live in Northern Virginia both places are likely to disown you. They might be close together, but they are worlds apart. NEXT! Claiming you are part of the DMV. DC, MD, VA. You CANNOT be part of the DMV if you don’t live in NOVA..

Stay classy, NOVA.

Fancy Fairfax County

Fairfax is seriously upping their game this year. It used to be that whenever a new shopping mall was being built you knew exactly what five stores where going to be there. I don’t know whether Fairfax is a new hot spot or we’ve found a way to tell people that we spend money here. Fair City has a Best Buy, DWS, Firehouse Subs, and we’re getting a ELEVATION BURGER! Up the street we’ve got a Green Turtle, Sweet Frog around the corner in Burke we’ve also got a new Sweet Frog and Ihop. There are many no name places to eat. When I say no name they aren’t franchised, but locally owned. We also have a brand new golf store called Golfsmith. Personally, I hate it. Simply because it took the spot of my favorite bookstore in the world, Borders. Had it been another book store I would have been happier. I guess we have a lot more golfers in Fairfax than I had thought.
