The Last Seal BOOK REVIEW

The Last Seal by Richard Denning

5 out of 5 read rating

A powerful demon has been trapped under the city of London for over 300 years. Now, however, malevolent forces are at work in the 17th century, planning to unleash terror and chaos on the world. Two rival secret societies the Liberati and the Praesidum – are caught in a battle that threatens to destroy the city and its unknowing inhabitants.

When a truant schoolboy, Ben, finds a scroll revealing the location of magical seals that bind the demon, this throws him into the centre of a dangerous plot that leads to the Great Fire of London. Ben must overcome his own problems – fear of failure, desire for revenge, guilt over his parents deaths – if he is to protect the city, and confront the evil demon.

As the plot unfolds, a little more of the mystery about Ben s own past and his parents deaths is made known. Ultimately, Ben and his friends must combat sorcery, defeat the evil Liberati and destroy the demon if they are to save their city and themselves.

Are Our Characters Really Human?

As authors we have characters that do amazing things, we have characters that don’t do anything all. We have characters that are total fluff and mean nothing to the plot and are forgotten within 5 pages.

But these characters that we create, are they really human?

Do your characters use the bathroom ever?

Do your characters eat three meals a day?

Do your characters shower daily or weekly or ever?

Do your characters go by a normal week?

Do you keep track of day of the week for extra detail?

Do your characters change clothes every day?

There are so many things that are so small of a detail, but at the same time they seem so big. If I was to include the shower every morning that my character had would people get annoyed? If I told you the outfit each day that the character changed into would you care? Do you think it’s weird that my characters are on a journey and I haven’t mentioned once how they are bathing or using the bathroom?

Of course, yes if you’re characters are human then they do these things, but is it necessary to include alllll of these details? I guess not.

A Snail’s Journey Up A Tree: Prompt #4

Prompt #4: A Snail’s journey up a tree

The snail is on this journey up the tree because it is a challenge to prove you are an amazing snail. At the top of the tree is some kind of fruit or special leaf that only grows up there. The snail must grab it and come back down to show everyone. On his journey he meets a bird, weather, other bugs and other things that happen on trees. Probably a kids story that wouldn’t be so long because I’m running out of details to put in here. LOL

Of course if you have a better answer to this prompt share with me.

4 out of 5 read rating for Dead Girl by B.C. Johnson

BOOK BLURB :

Dead is such a strong word…

Fifteen-year old Lucy Day falls between the gears in the machinery of the afterlife. She is murdered while on her first date, but awakens a day later, completely solid and completely whole. She has no hunger for brains, blood, or haunting, so she crosses “zombie,” “vampire,” and “ghost” off her list of re-life possibilities. But figuring out what she is becomes the least of her worries when Abraham, Lucy’s personal Grim Reaper, begins dogging her, dead-set on righting the error that dropped her back into the spongy flesh of a living girl.

Lucy must put her mangled life back together, escape re-death, and learn to control her burgeoning psychic powers while staying one step ahead of Abraham. But when she learns the devastating price of coming back from the dead, Lucy is forced to make the hardest decision of her re-life—a decision that could save her loved ones…or kill them.
