Are Our Characters Really Human?

As authors we have characters that do amazing things, we have characters that don’t do anything all. We have characters that are total fluff and mean nothing to the plot and are forgotten within 5 pages.

But these characters that we create, are they really human?

Do your characters use the bathroom ever?

Do your characters eat three meals a day?

Do your characters shower daily or weekly or ever?

Do your characters go by a normal week?

Do you keep track of day of the week for extra detail?

Do your characters change clothes every day?

There are so many things that are so small of a detail, but at the same time they seem so big. If I was to include the shower every morning that my character had would people get annoyed? If I told you the outfit each day that the character changed into would you care? Do you think it’s weird that my characters are on a journey and I haven’t mentioned once how they are bathing or using the bathroom?

Of course, yes if you’re characters are human then they do these things, but is it necessary to include alllll of these details? I guess not.

Meeting the pilgrims #dailyprompt #6

Prompt: You are an Indian meeting the pilgrims

I always think about this because today when you’re going to meet someone for the first time you can look them up on the internet and they probably are up there on some site. But the indians had no warnings that people were going to come over and visit. Being an Indian I would have been scared and I probably would have thought that maybe this was a bad omen. I might also have thought that these people were just different kinds of people because they look just like us, but don’t have the same skin or talk like us. There is a way that animals act and there is a way that humans act and it is very different. I think by the way they acted when they first came I would be scared with their guns and weapons. I would try to be polite because I feel that Indians are polite people.
